JD(U) MLA Niranjan Kumar Mehta Survives High-Speed Collision on NH-31 in Khagaria
In a dramatic late-night incident, JD(U) MLA Niranjan Kumar Mehta and four other individuals narrowly avoided severe injuries after the legislator's car, traveling at high speed, collided with a tractor on National Highway-31 near Parmanandpur Dhal in Khagaria district. The accident occurred late on Sunday night, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting an immediate police response.
Airbags Deploy to Prevent Serious Harm
The timely deployment of the car's airbags played a crucial role in limiting the injuries to minor ones, despite the front portion of the vehicle being completely damaged. Police authorities reached the spot promptly and efficiently shifted all injured parties to a private hospital for urgent medical attention. Mehta, who represents the Bihariganj constituency in Madhepura, sustained minor leg injuries, while the four other passengers also suffered minor injuries, all of which are reported to be non-life-threatening.
High Speed and Sudden Obstacle Cited as Causes
According to preliminary investigations by the police, the MLA's vehicle was moving at an excessive speed when the tractor suddenly appeared in front of it, leaving the driver with no time to react. The impact of the collision severely damaged the front of the car and caused significant chaos on the road, disrupting traffic flow temporarily. On receiving information about the accident, a dedicated team from the Mufassil police station arrived swiftly at the scene and initiated comprehensive rescue operations.
Swift Police Action and Traffic Normalization
The accident-damaged vehicle was promptly removed from the highway, and traffic was normalized to prevent further disruptions. The MLA and the other injured passengers were admitted to a private hospital in Khagaria for primary treatment, where they received necessary medical care. Following initial treatment, Mehta left for Patna, indicating his stable condition and readiness to resume his duties.

Mufassil SHO Amarjeet Pratap Singh stated, "The cause of the accident is being thoroughly investigated. In the preliminary probe, high speed and the tractor suddenly appearing in front of the car are being considered the main reasons for the accident." Authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine any additional factors that may have contributed to this alarming incident, emphasizing the importance of road safety measures on busy highways like NH-31.
