Punjab BJP Chief Demands Forensic Probe of 'CM Bhagwant Mann' Video
Jakhar Seeks Forensic Probe of Video Involving Punjab CM

In a significant political development, Punjab's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, Sunil Jakhar, has formally demanded an immediate forensic investigation into a controversial video that is currently circulating on social media platforms. The video allegedly features an individual who bears a resemblance to the state's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann.

Formal Request to Punjab Police Chief

Jakhar addressed the media in Chandigarh on Sunday, revealing that he has written a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab. In his communication, he urged the police chief to order a forensic analysis of the video from a credible laboratory. The BJP leader emphasized that Punjab is a sensitive state, and such content has the potential to trigger massive unrest among the public. He stressed that establishing the video's authenticity is crucial for maintaining peace and transparency.

Drawing Parallels and Setting a Deadline

Drawing a direct comparison, Jakhar pointed out the efficiency shown by the Punjab Police in a previous case. "If the Punjab Police could investigate a video related to former Delhi minister Atishi within one day, then the authenticity of this video linked to religious sacrilege — whether true or fake — can also be determined within one day," he stated. He argued that the same urgency should be applied to this case to clear the air.

Jakhar also issued a specific appeal to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He urged the CM to secure an impartial forensic report before his scheduled appearance at the Akal Takht Sahib on January 15. This, Jakhar said, would help clarify the situation surrounding the contentious video.

Political Repercussions and Planned Protest

The senior BJP leader outlined clear political consequences based on the investigation's outcome. He declared that if the video is proven to be fabricated, the state government should issue an official clarification based on the facts. Conversely, if the video is found to be genuine, Jakhar asserted that Bhagwant Mann would have "no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister."

To escalate the pressure, Jakhar announced a concrete plan of action. On January 16, the BJP's state core committee will stage a 'gherao' (surround) protest at the Chief Minister's official residence in Chandigarh. During this protest, the party intends to question Mann on multiple fronts, including:

  • The deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
  • The rising menace of gangsterism in the state.
  • Seeking answers regarding the controversial video in question.

This move sets the stage for a major political confrontation in the coming days, with the authenticity of the viral video at the center of the storm.
