Jaipur RTO Intensifies Crackdown on Overloaded Vehicles, Seizes 30 in Major Enforcement Operation
In a significant move to enhance road safety, the Jaipur Regional Transport Office (RTO)-II conducted a rigorous enforcement drive on Sunday, resulting in the seizure of 30 overloaded vehicles. The operation targeted routes connecting Jaipur with key areas such as Mahla, Jobner, Nawa, and Kuchaman, where vehicles were found transporting materials like salt, stone, and powder.
Joint Team Leads Enforcement Efforts
A coordinated team, led by District Transport Officer Yashpal Yadav and including transport inspectors Bhupendra Dabal, Bhartendu Pachauri, and Rajesh Chaudhary, intercepted vehicles entering the city. To address safety hazards, a mechanic was deployed on-site to remove unauthorized modifications made to commercial vehicles. These alterations, such as adding leaf springs to suspension systems or illegally extending vehicle bodies, are often used to facilitate overloading or carry extra passengers in vehicles like maxi cabs and auto-rickshaws.
Revenue Generation and Legal Actions Planned
Officials stated that the crackdown, which will continue until March 31, is expected to generate approximately Rs 20 lakhs in revenue. During the drive, which ran from 8 pm on Saturday to 9 am on Sunday, several drivers abandoned their overloaded vehicles on roads. These vehicles were safely secured with the assistance of GPS mechanics and trained reserve drivers. All seized vehicles were handled in accordance with statutory regulations and handed over to designated locations, including Jobner Police Station and other local police stations.
Strict measures are being implemented: This week, action will be initiated to suspend the driving licenses of drivers involved, and notices will be issued for the suspension of permits for the respective vehicles. Officials emphasized that overloading on commercial vehicles is a primary cause of road accidents, and checks also revealed pending tax dues on several vehicles, highlighting broader compliance issues.
Commitment to Road Safety and Compliance
Rajesh Chaudhary, one of the transport inspectors, reiterated the commitment to strict legal action against vehicles with unauthorized structural modifications. "This special enforcement drive underscores our dedication to reducing accidents and ensuring vehicle compliance," he added. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to tackle overloading, a critical factor in road safety, while also addressing financial irregularities like unpaid taxes.
