A special MP-MLA court in Prayagraj on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to jailed don and four-time former MLA Vijay Mishra, along with three others, in a 46-year-old murder case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the four convicted individuals.
Background of the Case
Earlier, this court had on Tuesday convicted Mishra along with Jeet Narayan, Santram, and Balram for the murder of 35-year-old Prakash Narayan Pandey on the district court premises on February 11, 1980. Vijay Mishra is a former MLA from the Gyanpur assembly seat of Bhadohi.
The Incident
Prakash Narayan Pandey, a university student, had come to Prayagraj's district court to seek bail in a case filed against him. He had an old feud with Santram and Balram, which allegedly led to the fatal shooting.
Legal Proceedings
The deceased's elder brother, Shyam Narayan, filed an FIR at the Colonelganj police station. However, the trial could not be concluded initially as the original records and case diary went missing. The file was later reconstructed, after which the trial concluded.
Vijay Mishra's Criminal Record
Mishra is currently lodged in Agra jail and faces 83 criminal cases, including charges of murder, loot, kidnapping, rape, fraud, extortion, and property grabbing, among others.
