Indore Sees Relief as Night Temp Rises to 7.5°C After 13-Day Cold Spell
Indore's Cold Wave Eases as Night Temperature Climbs

Residents of Indore finally got a break from the intense cold that had gripped the city for nearly two weeks. The much-needed relief came on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when the minimum temperature climbed to 7.5 degrees Celsius.

Cold Wave Conditions Finally Break

The night temperature saw a significant jump, rising by more than three degrees in just two days. This marked the end of the cold wave conditions that had persisted for 13 consecutive days, forcing people to endure unusually chilly nights. Meteorologists attributed the rise in night temperature to a cloud cover that persisted from late night through the morning, acting as a blanket and preventing heat from escaping.

Daytime Stays Cool, Humidity Fluctuates

While the nights became warmer, the daytime presented a different story. The same cloudiness that brought relief at night kept Sunday cooler during the day. The maximum temperature dipped to 26.2 degrees Celsius, which was one degree lower than Saturday's 27.1 degrees. The morning hours remained damp and chilly, with relative humidity touching 83 per cent. At 8:30 am, the temperature was recorded at 11.2 degrees Celsius, compelling residents to keep their winter wear on well into the day. By evening, conditions changed with the temperature settling at 23.6 degrees Celsius and humidity dropping to 50 per cent.

Dense Fog Disrupts Northern Madhya Pradesh

Meteorologist Arun Sharma provided insights into the broader weather pattern in the state. He reported that dense fog continued to severely disrupt visibility across northern Madhya Pradesh. "Zero visibility was recorded in districts like Gwalior and Sidhi early in the morning. Dense fog conditions were still present in areas such as Satna, Rewa, Singrauli, and Maihar even later in the morning," Sharma said. He added that parts of western Madhya Pradesh, including Indore, remained under patchy cloud cover during the day, which kept temperature variations within a narrow band. He cautioned that while minimum temperatures show a slight upward trend, the cold has not fully eased.

Stable, Dry Weather Forecast Ahead

The meteorological department has forecast dry weather in the Indore and Ujjain divisions from December 22 to 25. No weather warnings have been issued for the region during this period. Officials expect night temperatures to remain slightly higher than the previous week, but daytime conditions will continue to feel cool over the next few days. A key takeaway for local residents is that morning fog is not expected to be severe in the Indore-Ujjain belt, unlike the northern districts of the state. However, mild haze during early morning hours is still a possibility. Overall, stable weather conditions are likely to prevail with no major temperature changes anticipated through the Christmas period.
