Indore Voter List Shrinks by 380,298 After Rigorous Verification Process
Indore Voter Count Drops by 380,298 After SSR Revision

Indore District Voter Count Declines Significantly Following Electoral Roll Cleanup

Indore has witnessed a substantial decrease in its registered voter base following the completion of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process. The final electoral roll for the district now stands at 24,86,996 voters, marking a net reduction of 3,80,298 individuals from the initial count of 28,67,294 recorded at the start of the revision.

Demographic Breakdown of the Final Voter List

The newly published list presents a balanced demographic profile with a notably healthy gender ratio of 986. According to the official data, Indore district currently comprises:

  • 12,52,332 male voters
  • 12,34,569 female voters
  • 95 third gender voters

The electoral roll also includes several special categories of voters:

  1. 12,255 persons with disabilities (PwD) voters
  2. 461 Non-Resident Indian (NRI) voters
  3. 1,788 service voters
  4. 11,664 voters aged 85 years and above

For election administration, the district has established 3,210 polling stations located within 1,443 buildings across its jurisdiction.

Rigorous Verification Process Behind the Reduction

The significant decrease in voter numbers resulted from an intensive verification campaign conducted by election authorities between November 4 and December 18. The administration focused on eliminating ineligible entries through multiple stages of scrutiny.

Initially, 4.47 lakh names were removed from the electoral roll due to duplication issues or failure to verify authenticity. Subsequently, hearings were conducted for 6.78 lakh voters whose entries showed 'no mapping' or contained logical errors. This process led to the disqualification of an additional 5,108 individuals, while 551 voters successfully transferred their registrations to other districts.

Despite these removals, the administration simultaneously incorporated 84,293 new names into the voter list. This included 70,227 young voters who registered through Form 6 and 14,066 voters who transferred into Indore district from elsewhere using Form 8.

Urban Areas Experience More Pronounced Impact

The revision process had a particularly noticeable effect on urban constituencies within the district. The five major urban constituencies—Indore-1 through Indore-5—collectively saw the removal of 2,77,694 names from their electoral rolls.

In contrast, the rural constituencies of Sanwer, Depalpur, and Mhow experienced a comparatively smaller reduction, with a total of 62,083 names being eliminated from their voter lists.

Ongoing Correction Process and Official Communication

District Election Officer Shivam Verma clarified during a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties on Saturday that while the final list has been officially published, the process for additions and transfers remains operational.

Citizens whose names were erroneously removed during the revision, as well as new voters who missed the initial deadline, can still submit applications through Form 6 at the election office or via the official online portal. This provision ensures continued accessibility to the electoral correction mechanism for all eligible residents of Indore district.
