Indore Police Monthly Rankings: Vijay Nagar Tops, Central Kotwali Last

Indore Police Introduces Monthly Performance Ranking System for Police Stations

The Indore Police Commissionerate has taken a significant step toward enhancing police accountability and service quality by implementing a comprehensive monthly evaluation system for all city police stations. On Monday, the commissionerate released the inaugural performance results for January 2026, marking a new era of data-driven policing in the region.

Vijay Nagar Emerges as Top Performer, Central Kotwali Ranks Last

In the groundbreaking first assessment, Vijay Nagar Police Station secured the highest ranking among all 32 stations under the commissionerate's jurisdiction. The station was recognized for its exemplary performance across multiple evaluation parameters. Following closely behind were Khajrana and Kanadia police stations, which demonstrated strong operational capabilities.

Conversely, Central Kotwali Police Station recorded the weakest performance, landing at the bottom of the ranking. Raoji Bajaar and Sarafa police stations occupied the second and third last positions respectively, indicating areas requiring substantial improvement in their policing methodologies.

Comprehensive Evaluation Framework

According to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, the evaluation system was implemented under the direction of Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh with the objective of making policing more professional, transparent, performance-oriented, and public-oriented.

The monthly assessment is conducted by committees led by Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) from respective zones and evaluates stations against several critical parameters:

  • Crime Control: Effectiveness in preventing and solving crimes, with particular focus on serious offenses including women-related cases, recovery of missing minors, fraud and theft case resolutions, time-bound investigations, disposal of old cases, and addressing public complaints through channels like the CM Helpline and cyber case management.
  • Public Satisfaction: Responsiveness to citizen grievances and overall community engagement.
  • Innovation: Implementation of new policing techniques and community outreach programs.
  • Operational Efficiency: Standards of maintenance, procedural transparency, and administrative effectiveness.

Dandotiya elaborated that performance measurement extends to specific operational metrics including:

  1. Percentage of served summons and warrants
  2. Actions under the Arms Act, excise regulations, and NDPS cases
  3. Implementation of preventive actions
  4. Timely handling of law and order situations
  5. Public outreach initiatives including hearings and mohalla samiti meetings
  6. Assistance with passport and other verification processes

Technology Integration and Public Feedback Mechanisms

The evaluation system incorporates advanced technological components alongside traditional policing metrics. Drone patrolling and drink-and-drive checking operations are specifically assessed as part of the innovation parameter. Furthermore, the system includes a structured mechanism for collecting and analyzing public feedback, which significantly influences station rankings.

Negative marking is applied based on complaints or cases registered against staff members of respective police stations, ensuring accountability extends to individual conduct within organizational performance assessments.

Rewards and Remedial Measures

The commissionerate has announced a two-pronged strategy following the evaluation results. Staff members and the Station House Officer (SHO) of top-performing Vijay Nagar Police Station will receive recognition and rewards, with encouragement to maintain their high standards of service.

For underperforming stations, particularly Central Kotwali, specialized training programs spanning several days have been mandated for both the station in-charge and staff members. These interventions aim to improve working methodologies and enhance service delivery capabilities.

Dandotiya emphasized that strict departmental action will be initiated against responsible personnel if performance fails to show visible improvement following the training period. This accountability measure underscores the seriousness with which the commissionerate approaches performance enhancement.

Creating a Competitive Policing Environment

The newly implemented evaluation system is expected to foster a competitive environment among Indore's police stations, driving continuous improvement in policing standards. By establishing clear performance benchmarks and transparent assessment mechanisms, the initiative aims to ultimately create a more secure and citizen-friendly environment throughout the city.

This monthly ranking system represents a paradigm shift in police administration, moving from traditional evaluation methods to a comprehensive, data-driven approach that balances crime control metrics with public satisfaction indicators. The initiative positions Indore as a pioneer in implementing structured performance assessment frameworks within law enforcement agencies.
