Hubballi-Dharwad Pothole Repairs Move at Snail's Pace

Pothole repair works across Hubballi-Dharwad continue to progress slowly. This situation frustrates motorists months after heavy monsoon rains damaged city roads.

Massive Pothole Area Identified

The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has identified a huge pothole area. It spans 47,383.2 square meters across the twin cities.

Heavy rainfall between June and November 2025 caused extensive damage to road surfaces. Commuters now navigate hazardous stretches daily.

Repair Status and Challenges

Sources reveal that only 13,914.1 square meters of potholes have been filled so far. Some individual potholes measure up to 30 square meters.

Officials attribute delays to persistent rains and technical issues. They confirm that repair efforts are underway.

Roads suffered severe damage from repeated digging for underground drainage and water pipelines. Other development works also contributed to the problem.

Financial Constraints Hinder Progress

The situation worsens due to financial constraints. Motorists report that HDMC struggles to complete repairs.

The state government has not provided additional sanctions for funding. This lack of support hampers repair work significantly.

Hemanth Naik, a local motorist, shared his perspective. "Even local MLAs find it difficult to get funds released from the state government," he said.

Commuters Voice Concerns

Prashant K from Navanagar expressed worry about specific areas. He highlighted poor road conditions around Chennamma Circle and Hosur Road.

"Vehicle movement has increased significantly, especially on major roads. These stretches need immediate repairs to ensure smooth traffic flow," he stated.

Official Response and Timeline

HDMC commissioner Rudresh Gali addressed the issue. He confirmed that pothole filling on major roads has begun.

The corporation will repair roads under various schemes. These include the 15th Finance Commission plan and other urban development funds.

Gali provided an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore for the repairs. He expects completion by the coming summer season.

The civic body remains committed to addressing the pothole problem. However, progress depends on weather conditions and available funds.
