Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction Himachal Niketan in New Delhi on Monday, setting a strict six-month deadline for its completion. The visit aimed to accelerate the progress of this significant infrastructure project intended for the people of Himachal.
Project Overview and Premium Facilities
During his visit to the site in Dwarka, the Chief Minister received a detailed briefing from Principal Secretary of PWD, Devesh Kumar. The state government is developing this facility at an estimated cost of Rs 145 crore. Once operational, Himachal Niketan will offer near five-star amenities to Himachalis traveling to the national capital.
The complex is designed to be a comprehensive hub with 107 rooms, a dedicated restaurant, and a spacious banquet hall. It will also feature a multipurpose hall, a meeting hall, and separate dormitory accommodations. For convenience, the project includes ample parking space, a garden area, and modern electric vehicle charging stations.
A Home Away From Home for Himachalis
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the government is consistently attentive to the needs of its citizens. He stated that Himachal Niketan is specifically being built to provide comfortable and affordable lodging for residents who visit Delhi for critical purposes like medical treatment and higher education.
"The state government was always responsive to the needs of the people," Sukhu remarked, highlighting that the additional building will serve as a vital support system. He envisions the facility significantly easing the logistical and financial burdens faced by many families during such visits.
Widespread Support for the Initiative
The initiative has garnered appreciation from other state officials. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania praised the government's endeavour, noting the large influx of students and patients from Himachal to Delhi every year. He affirmed that this dedicated accommodation would offer them much-needed comfort and a sense of home.
With the Chief Minister's direct intervention and the clear six-month directive to the overseeing officers, the project is now on a fast track. The completion of Himachal Niketan is poised to become a landmark welfare project, reinforcing the state's commitment to its people even when they are far from the hills.
