In a significant push to eradicate the menace of drug addiction, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is set to spearhead a large-scale walkathon in his home district of Hamirpur. The event, scheduled for Tuesday, is a crucial part of the state government's sustained campaign against the abuse of 'chitta', a local term for heroin.
CM's Continued March Against Drugs
This will not be the Chief Minister's first public demonstration in this fight. CM Sukhu previously participated in similar 'anti-chitta walkathons' held in Shimla on November 15 and in Dharamshala on December 1. His consistent presence underscores the administration's top priority in tackling the drug epidemic head-on and fostering a healthier future for the state's youth.
Massive Student Participation Expected
The Hamirpur walkathon is anticipated to draw a massive crowd, with a special focus on mobilizing the younger generation. Thousands of students from various educational institutions across the district are expected to join the march. In a powerful symbolic gesture, all participants will be administered a solemn oath during the event. This pledge will commit them to actively oppose drug abuse and champion the cause of a drug-free society in their communities.
Route and Program Details
The walkathon will commence in the morning from the grounds of the Shaheed Captain Mridul Sharma Memorial Boys Senior Secondary School. The procession will then wind its way through key points in the town, including Nadaun Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Main Bazaar, Bhota Chowk, and the Hathli Khad Bridge, before culminating at the Police Ground in Dosarka. At the concluding venue, Chief Minister Sukhu will address the gathered participants, reinforcing the government's message and the collective responsibility in this battle.
The event highlights the state's multi-pronged strategy, combining high-level political will with grassroots mobilization, especially among students, to create a formidable resistance against the scourge of drug addiction in Himachal Pradesh.
