Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Lauds JMM Government's Progress, Slams BJP's Past Rule
In a spirited address during the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's foundation day celebration in Dhanbad on Wednesday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren asserted that his government has steered Jharkhand toward a new era of development since taking over from the Bharatiya Janata Party. The event, marked by political fervor, saw Soren reflecting on the state's journey and outlining his administration's key initiatives.
Addressing Skepticism and Celebrating Progress
Hemant Soren recalled that in the early days of Jharkhand's formation as a separate state, there were voices of doubt predicting its failure to thrive independently. "Today, those very people are a witness to the state's march on the path of progress with strength and confidence," he declared, emphasizing the resilience and growth under the JMM-led coalition. His remarks aimed to counter past narratives and highlight the state's current trajectory.
Criticism of BJP's Governance and Migration Issues
The Chief Minister launched a sharp critique against the BJP, alleging that during its 14 to 15 years in power, Jharkhand was pushed into a "backward and ailing" state. He pointed to large-scale migration of residents as a consequence, arguing that the previous government failed to provide adequate opportunities, forcing people to seek livelihoods elsewhere. This, Soren claimed, exacerbated socio-economic challenges in the region.
Welfare Initiatives and Employment Protection
To address these issues, the JMM government has implemented several welfare schemes. A notable measure is the law mandating 75% reservation for local residents in outsourced jobs, designed to safeguard employment for Jharkhand's youth and curb migration. Soren highlighted this as a pivotal step toward economic self-reliance and job creation within the state.
Additionally, the administration is focusing on women's empowerment through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which provides financial support and resources to women. For students, the Guruji Credit Card Scheme offers aid of up to Rs 15 lakh, facilitating access to higher education and skill development, as stressed by the CM during his speech.
Allegations of Step-Motherly Treatment by Union Government
Hemant Soren accused the Union government of showing partiality towards Jharkhand, describing it as being treated like a "labour-supplying region for the development of other states." He argued that this neglect has hindered the state's potential, calling for more equitable support and resources from the central authorities to foster balanced growth across India.
Focus on Tribal Rights and Historical Injustices
Highlighting the plight of Jharkhand's tribal communities, Soren recounted how decades ago, many were taken to tea gardens in places like Siliguri and Arunachal Pradesh. "They contributed to the development of various states but have not got their due rights," he lamented, noting ongoing agitations for survival and recognition. The CM pledged to meet the Prime Minister to advocate for improved living conditions and justice for these marginalized groups.
Honoring Guruji's Legacy and Future Commitments
In a poignant moment, Hemant Soren expressed that celebrating the foundation day without Guruji—a reference to JMM founder Shibu Soren—was painful. However, he affirmed the party and government's unwavering commitment to fulfilling Guruji's vision for Jharkhand. "The party and the govt are firmly committed to fulfilling his dreams for Jharkhand," he stated, underscoring a continued dedication to the state's prosperity and welfare.
Overall, the event in Dhanbad served as a platform for the Chief Minister to showcase his government's achievements, critique past administrations, and rally support for ongoing and future initiatives aimed at transforming Jharkhand.
