Gujarat Assembly Announces Dates for Budget Session

Gandhinagar prepares for a significant legislative period. The Gujarat legislative assembly will conduct its budget session from February 16 to March 25. Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary confirmed these dates on Friday.

Budget Presentation and Supplementary Statements

Finance Minister Kanu Desai will present the state government's budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on February 17. This presentation marks a key moment in the session.

Alongside the main budget, the assembly will also review supplementary expenditure statements. These statements cover several past financial years, including 2011-12, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2018-19. A supplementary statement for 2025-26 will also come before the house.

Session Structure and Working Days

The session spans a total of 23 working days. It begins with Governor Acharya Devvrat's address. This is the 8th session of the 15th Gujarat assembly.

Lawmakers allocated specific meetings for different activities. They set aside three meetings to discuss the governor's address. Four meetings will handle government business and bills.

General discussion on the budget and departmental demands will occupy 18 meetings. Two sessions will focus on voting for supplementary demands. Additionally, six meetings will address non-government business.

Preparation and Question Management

Speaker Shankar Chaudhary formed a special group of five ministers. This group will create a detailed schedule for starred questions. These questions will open each meeting of the session.

MLAs can submit their questions through both online and offline channels. This dual system ensures accessibility for all assembly members.

Pre-Session Planning

Before the session starts, the Business Advisory Committee will meet. Speaker Chaudhary will chair this important meeting. The committee will discuss work details for the session.

House proceedings will follow the committee's recommendations. This structured approach aims to ensure smooth and efficient legislative work during the extended session period.
