Karur Stampede Probe: CFSL Team Examines Vijay's Campaign Vehicle for 3 Hours
Forensic Team Inspects Vijay's Caravan in Karur Stampede Case

In a significant development in the investigation into the tragic Karur stampede, a specialized team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) conducted an intensive, three-hour examination of the modified caravan used by actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay during his election campaigns. The stampede, which occurred in Velusamypuram, Karur, in September last year, resulted in the deaths of 41 people.

Forensic Scrutiny at Karur Circuit House

The high-profile campaign vehicle was brought to the temporary office of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) set up within the Karur circuit house complex. Officials transported the caravan all the way from Panaiyur, near Chennai, specifically for this forensic inspection. The CFSL team's objective was to gather precise physical evidence related to the vehicle's structure and layout.

Detailed Measurements and Recreation

The forensic sleuths meticulously documented the caravan's dimensions using measuring tapes, taking notes from all sides of the vehicle. A key part of the probe involved accessing the podium on the vehicle's roof, from where Vijay had addressed the public. Officials utilized the integrated lift mechanism within the caravan to reach the roof safely.

To understand the perspective and setup during the campaign event, investigators had a person sit inside the front cabin, specifically in the same seat from which the actor had waved to his supporters and party cadres following the vehicle. The team compiled comprehensive visual evidence, capturing numerous photographs and videos both inside and outside the caravan.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

This forensic examination comes ahead of a crucial date in the case. Actor Vijay has been directed to appear before the CBI headquarters in New Delhi on January 12 in connection with the stampede. The CBI, which is handling the investigation, is piecing together the events that led to the catastrophic crowd surge. Following the detailed inspection, sources indicated that the campaign vehicle would be returned to Chennai.

The probe by the central agencies underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the incident, seeking to determine the factors that contributed to one of Tamil Nadu's deadliest recent stampedes.
