Five Arrested for Woman's Murder Over Business Dispute

Bokaro: Five men have been arrested for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old woman and dumping her body in a river over a business dispute, the police said on Saturday.

Baby Devi, a resident of Chas, was reported missing on April 20. Her body was found in a sack, floating in the Jamunia river near Chirubad village under Chandrapura police station limits, on April 23.

Bokaro SP Nathu Singh Meena set up a special investigation team to crack the case. "The breakthrough came after technical surveillance and intelligence inputs linked the case to suspects in Bokaro's Sector 9 area. Police first detained Guddu Barnwal and Anil Kumar. Their interrogation then led to the arrest of Vivek Kumar, Jageshwar Mahto and Shaukat Raja," Bermo deputy superintendent of police Naval Kishore Singh said.

The accused, the police said, revealed that Baby was killed and her body was dumped in the river to erase evidence and delay identification. The DSP added, "A car used in the crime was also seized, with long strands of hair and bloodstains found beneath the rear seat."

Police also recovered six phones during the operation. The deceased had prior acquaintance with the main accused Guddu, and personal disputes are believed to have led to the murder conspiracy. The DSP said, "They both were in the same business related to Ayurveda medicines and the dispute developed from the business leading to her murder."

The investigation continues as police look into further details of the case.
