Fadnavis Defends PM Modi's Stance on Agriculture in Indo-US Trade Agreement
In a significant address at a mega exhibition organized by the state animal husbandry department in Parli, Beed district, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis strongly refuted claims of false propaganda surrounding the recently signed Indo-US trade deal. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured the agriculture sector remains protected from global competition.
Clarification on Trade Deal Exclusions
Fadnavis stated, "False propaganda is being spread that our market has been opened up for American agriculture. I would like to assert, and it has been clearly stated by the PM, that the deal would be signed excluding agriculture. That country (the United States) cannot bring their agri produce here and cause a drop in domestic prices." He highlighted that this misinformation has already impacted soyabean prices, which dropped by Rs 500 per quintal due to rumors. Urging market players to disregard such claims, he advised showing rumour mongers their place.
Boosting Animal Husbandry Sector
Announcing ambitious goals, Fadnavis revealed the government's aim to increase the growth rate of the animal husbandry sector from the current 4-8% to 25%. Key initiatives include:
- Modernization of 2,841 veterinary clinics across the state.
- Establishment of a network of mobile veterinary ambulance services.
- Revival of the state-run skimmed milk powder plant in Udgir, Latur district, with an investment of Rs 100 crore.
New Schemes for Rural Entrepreneurship
Cabinet Minister Pankaja Munde, who holds the animal husbandry portfolio, outlined plans to launch the 'Chief Minister's Rural Livestock Entrepreneur Scheme'. This initiative aims to empower rural youths by making them entrepreneurs in the livestock sector. Munde noted, "We recently granted animal husbandry the status of agriculture. This will help livestock owners get loans at reduced rates and also avail different subsidies. In future, animal husbandry would be a sustained source of employment."
The event underscored the government's commitment to safeguarding agricultural interests while fostering growth in allied sectors like animal husbandry, positioning it as a key driver for rural economy and employment.
