In a shocking incident in Tamil Nadu, the residence of a former Member of Parliament was targeted by thieves, resulting in a major theft of gold jewellery. The house belonging to A K S Vijayan, a three-time Lok Sabha member and the state's special representative in New Delhi, was broken into over the weekend.

The burglary took place at Vijayan's house in Sekaran Nagar, Trichy, where his wife and daughter reside. According to police reports, the family had travelled to their native village, Sithamalli in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur district, on November 28. Upon their return on Monday morning, they discovered the front door lock broken.
Inside the house, the situation was grim. The burglars had forcibly opened a locker. The family found that gold ornaments weighing 87 sovereigns were missing from the breached safe. The total value of the stolen gold is estimated to be significant, though police are yet to release an official valuation.

Following a formal complaint from A K S Vijayan, law enforcement swiftly moved into action. A team from the Thanjavur Tamil University police station visited the burgled house to collect forensic evidence and examine the scene.
