Mother-Daughter Tragedy in Etawah: Woman Rescued, Teen Daughter Drowns in Well After Family Dispute
A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening, resulting in the tragic death of an 18-year-old girl and the rescue of her mother from a deep well. The event occurred in Lalpura village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Bakevar police station area, casting a shadow over the Holi festivities.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, the sequence of events began with a domestic dispute between Rekha Devi, aged 38, and her husband. The argument reportedly centered around the issue of driving an auto-rickshaw, escalating to a point of extreme distress for Rekha Devi.
In a state of emotional turmoil, Rekha Devi made the fateful decision to jump into a 60-foot-deep well located near their family home. Witnessing her mother's desperate act, her 18-year-old daughter, identified as Bhoomi, followed suit and also leaped into the well in what authorities believe was an attempt to save her.
Rescue Efforts and Outcome
The immediate response came from a local villager named Karan Singh, who displayed remarkable bravery by jumping into the well to assist. Karan Singh managed to pull Rekha Devi out of the water, successfully rescuing her. However, despite his efforts, he was unable to locate Bhoomi in the deep and murky waters.
Following this, the villagers promptly alerted the authorities, including Bakevar Station House Officer Vipin Malik and Mahewa outpost in-charge Rajneesh Tiwari. A coordinated rescue operation was swiftly launched, with police teams arriving at the scene alongside the fire brigade.
The operation lasted for approximately four hours, during which rescue personnel worked tirelessly to search the well. Tragically, Bhoomi's body was recovered from the water after this extensive effort. Rekha Devi was immediately transported to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Mahewa for medical attention and is reported to be under care.
Police Investigation and Statements
Speaking on the incident, SHO Vipin Malik provided insights into the preliminary findings. "It appears that the daughter followed her mother into the well in an attempt to save her," he stated, highlighting the probable motive behind Bhoomi's actions. He further added that "the investigation is ongoing" to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the dispute and the subsequent tragedy.
The local community has been left in shock by this devastating event, which underscores the severe consequences of domestic conflicts. Authorities are continuing their probe to piece together the full narrative and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
