AIADMK Leader Questions Congress-DMK Alliance Stability During Salem Pongal Celebration
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami made significant political remarks at a Pongal function near Mecheri in Salem district on Thursday. He directly questioned the future of the Congress party within the DMK alliance.
Political Alliance Under Scrutiny
Palaniswami stated that Congress appears ready to slip away from the DMK alliance. He repeated his question about whether Congress will actually remain with DMK moving forward. The AIADMK leader emphasized that his party represents a strong coalition.
"A winning alliance will definitely secure victory in the upcoming assembly general elections," Palaniswami declared confidently. "We will form the next AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu."
Criticism of Current State Governance
The opposition leader criticized the current administration's handling of several key issues. He noted that government employees, teachers, and nurses are regularly participating in protests across the state.
"Tamil Nadu is becoming a battleground for continuous protests," Palaniswami lamented. He claimed that ordinary citizens have reached a point where they are considering boycotting the system entirely.
The AIADMK chief raised serious concerns about law and order deterioration. He highlighted increasing circulation of cannabis and drugs throughout Tamil Nadu. Palaniswami specifically mentioned that the position of DGP for Law and Order remains unfilled.
Praise for Central Government
Palaniswami offered strong praise for the union government during his address. He described the central administration as a strong government functioning effectively.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working exceptionally well as what I consider the best Prime Minister in the world," the AIADMK leader stated. He expressed hope that "we will soon hoist the flag of victory" in Tamil Nadu.
Festival Participation and Agricultural Focus
Earlier in the day, Palaniswami arrived at the Pongal festival in traditional style. He traveled in a bullock cart, with party executives and volunteers welcoming him by showering flowers.
The leader expressed happiness about how Pongal celebrations have evolved. "Previously, Pongal was celebrated primarily in villages, but now people are celebrating it in cities as well," he observed.
Palaniswami emphasized the continuing importance of agriculture in Tamil Nadu. He noted that approximately 65 percent of the state's population still depends on farming for their livelihood.
Cultural Engagement and Prizes
During the festival, Palaniswami enjoyed various traditional performances. He watched Valli Gummi dance, Urimmiyattam, Therukkoothu, and horse dances presented by local artists.
The AIADMK leader also presented prizes to the owners of Jallikattu bulls displayed at the event. This traditional bull-taming sport remains an important part of Pongal celebrations in the region.
Palaniswami reminded attendees about AIADMK's historical contributions. He mentioned that the party implemented numerous development projects following the passing of both MGR and Jayalalithaa.
"People are eagerly waiting for when AIADMK will remove the DMK from power," he told the gathered crowd, reinforcing his party's commitment to returning to governance.
