The Election Commission (EC) on Friday strongly refuted allegations of vote tampering made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the high-stakes Bhabanipur bypoll. The EC termed the claims as baseless and without any supporting evidence.
EC's Firm Response
In a detailed statement, the EC said that all necessary protocols were followed during the voting process. It added that no irregularities were reported by any polling officials or observers. The commission further warned against spreading misinformation that could undermine the electoral process.
Mamata Banerjee, who is contesting from Bhabanipur to retain her chief ministerial post, had earlier alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to manipulate votes. She claimed that some electronic voting machines (EVMs) were tampered with and demanded a re-poll.

The bypoll witnessed intense political drama as both the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP accused each other of malpractice. The TMC alleged that BJP workers were intimidating voters, while the BJP countered with claims of TMC goons threatening their supporters.
