Dungarpur CM Event Forced to Use Wood Stoves Amid Commercial LPG Shortage

A critical shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has forced event organizers in Dungarpur to resort to traditional wood-fired stoves for cooking food ahead of a major public assembly featuring Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The event, held on Monday as part of the Rajasthan Diwas celebrations, required meals for nearly 13,000 attendees, highlighting a significant supply crisis in the region.

Supply Crisis Forces Traditional Cooking Methods

Local authorities revealed that preparing food for the large gathering necessitated approximately 30 commercial LPG cylinders. However, only 3 to 4 cylinders were available due to the ongoing supply disruption. This severe shortage left organizers with no viable alternative but to arrange wood for cooking, marking a stark departure from modern catering practices.

"We were left with no choice but to arrange wood to prepare food for the people," stated Dungarpur District Supply Officer Om Prakash. He emphasized that using domestic LPG cylinders for such a large-scale event would have sparked controversy, as it could divert resources from household needs.

Official Clarification on LPG Availability

In an official statement, Om Prakash clarified the current LPG supply situation in Dungarpur. "As a DSO, I can tell you that the supply of domestic LPG cylinders is adequate, but there is no supply of commercial cylinders at the moment," he explained. This distinction underscores a targeted shortage affecting commercial operations while domestic supplies remain stable.

The reliance on wood stoves for a high-profile event like the Rajasthan Diwas assembly raises concerns about:

  • The impact of supply chain disruptions on public events
  • Environmental implications of increased wood burning
  • Logistical challenges in managing large gatherings during shortages

This incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in essential commodity supply chains, even during state celebrations. Authorities are now likely to review contingency plans to prevent similar situations in future events, ensuring that public assemblies can proceed without compromising on basic amenities like cooking facilities.
