Indore: Congress units staged protests in Indore and other districts of the Malwa-Nimar region on Wednesday over the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination. The demonstrations included sit-ins, fasts, and silent protests, with party workers accusing the Election Commission of political pressure.
Protests in Indore and Mandsaur
In Indore, party city president Chintu Choukse led a sit-in protest at Rajwada near the Ahilyabai statue. In Natarajan’s former Lok Sabha constituency of Mandsaur, party workers led by district president Mahendra Singh Gujjar observed a fast at Gandhi Chouraha.
Demonstrations in Neemuch, Dhar, and Other Districts
In Neemuch and Dhar’s Sardarpur, party workers tied black bands on their arms during five-hour fasts, chanting slogans against the Election Commission. Demonstrations were also held in Dewas and Khandwa, where party district president Uttampal Singh led a silent protest with their mouths covered with black strips, alleging extreme political pressure.
In Burhanpur, Indore rural in-charge Ajay Singh Raghuvanshi and city chief Rinku Tak spearheaded a ‘Save Democracy’ fast at Gandhi Chowk. The protests reflect widespread anger among Congress workers over the rejection of Natarajan’s nomination, which they claim was done under undue influence.
