NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Tuesday dismissed rumors of a power struggle between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar. Addressing reporters after a party meeting, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal clarified that the discussions were centered around the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Karnataka Legislative Council elections, not internal conflicts.
Meeting Focused on Electoral Strategy
Venugopal emphasized that the meeting was convened to strategize for the upcoming polls and to ensure party unity. He stated, "There is no truth to the speculation about differences between our leaders. The party is united, and we are working together to strengthen our position in the upper houses."
Background of Speculations
Rumors of a rift between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have been circulating for weeks, fueled by reports of disagreements over cabinet portfolios and party appointments. However, the Congress leadership has consistently maintained that both leaders are working in tandem for the welfare of Karnataka.
The party is keen to project a unified front ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, where it aims to secure maximum seats. The Karnataka Legislative Council polls are also crucial for the party's legislative agenda.
Venugopal's remarks come as a reassurance to party workers and allies, signaling that the Congress remains cohesive despite external narratives of discord. The meeting also discussed organizational matters and preparations for future electoral challenges.
