Congress Leaders Defend Third Discom Decision in Telangana
Hyderabad: Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and MLC Addanki Dayakar on Friday strongly defended the state government's decision to establish a third Discom, stating that opposition parties were making speculative allegations without understanding the financial condition of the power utilities.
“The Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited (TGRPDCL) is aimed at strengthening the existing power utilities and provide a reliable power supply to the agricultural sector. The previous BRS government had burdened the discoms with huge debts. The incumbent Congress government is now trying to restore financial discipline,” said Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Participating in the public hearing conducted by the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC), the Congress leaders accused the BRS of spreading lies and intentionally politicising the issue for narrow political gains. They argued that the third Discom would help in better management of power distribution and reduce the financial burden on the existing utilities.
The leaders emphasized that the decision was taken after careful consideration of the power sector's challenges and was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to farmers. They urged the opposition to cooperate rather than mislead the public.
