Congress Deploys Ministers to Lead Municipal Election Campaign in Telangana

With municipal elections approaching across Telangana, the Congress leadership has taken a decisive step. They have appointed ministers and a government advisor as in-charges for urban local bodies throughout the state. These leaders will steer poll strategy, oversee candidate selection, and coordinate campaign efforts.

Ministers Take Charge in Chief Minister's Absence

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has left for Davos to attend World Economic Forum meetings. He is expected to return in the first week of February. In his absence, the party has entrusted fourteen ministers with a critical task. They will oversee elections to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations.

Each in-charge minister will supervise one parliamentary constituency. They will manage all urban local bodies within its geographical limits. The State Election Commission is expected to announce the municipal election schedule within the next couple of days. Polls are likely to be completed before February 15.

Responsibilities and Strategy for the Elections

The in-charge ministers will shoulder significant responsibilities. They will handle election planning, campaign strategy, preparations, and coordination in their respective constituencies. Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud provided details on the process.

Goud stated that screening committees have been constituted for candidate selection. These committees will be headed by the minister in charge of the parliamentary constituency. District Congress committee presidents will act as convenors.

Local MPs and MLAs will be consulted during the selection process. Candidates will be shortlisted and finalised based on several key considerations. Social justice and winnability will play crucial roles, along with other important factors.

Unity and Ambitious Targets Set by Leadership

Mahesh Goud made a strong appeal to party leaders and cadres in urban local bodies. He urged them to resolve internal differences promptly. He also called for full support to candidates who receive the Congress B-form.

Goud revealed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has set an ambitious target. The party aims to win ninety percent of the seats in the upcoming municipal elections. This goal underscores the importance the Congress places on these local polls.

Specific Appointments and Parliamentary Constituencies

The Congress has made specific assignments for key parliamentary constituencies. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy will take charge of municipal elections in ULBs under the Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency. Meanwhile, Mohammed Azharuddin will lead the campaign in the Zaheerabad parliamentary constituency.
