Congress MLC Announces Committee to Re-verify Land for Stadium in T Narasipura

In Mysuru, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah declared on Thursday that a dedicated committee, headed by Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, will be established to conduct a thorough re-verification of the land allocated by the state government for the construction of a stadium on KSIC (Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation) land in T Narasipura town. This move comes amidst escalating tensions and protests over the land use decision.

Committee Composition and Mandate

Speaking to reporters after a visit to the KSIC unit, Siddaramaiah elaborated that the committee will include senior officials from the sericulture department as well as the youth empowerment and sports departments. These officials are tasked with inspecting the KSIC facility comprehensively and submitting a detailed report based on their findings. A final decision regarding the land allocation will only be made after the committee's report has been thoroughly reviewed and considered, ensuring transparency in the process.

Clarifications on Silk Filature Unit and Opposition Accusations

The MLC took the opportunity to clarify that the Congress government has no intentions of closing down the silk filature unit, addressing concerns raised by local stakeholders. He accused the opposition of deliberately misleading factory employees and the residents of T Narasipura, creating unnecessary panic. Siddaramaiah explained that the government's decision to provide the vacant and unutilised land for stadium construction was made due to the lack of other suitable government land available in the area. This land was specifically planned for utilisation to meet the town's infrastructure needs, he emphasized.

Ongoing Protests and Police Assurance

Meanwhile, the protest staged by various organisations against the land allocation entered its 15th day on Thursday. Protestors were seen raising slogans against Yathindra Siddaramaiah, which were met with counter-slogans from the MLC's supporters at the protest site. Despite the heightened emotions and vocal disagreements, police officials confirmed that there were no untoward incidents, and the situation remained under control. The ongoing demonstrations highlight the community's deep-seated concerns over the land use issue, which the newly formed committee aims to address through a systematic re-verification process.
