Coimbatore Retired Transport Workers Stage Protest Over Association Registration

Around twenty members of the TNSTC Retired Employee Welfare Association held a sit-in protest on Monday. They gathered at the district registrar office premises in Coimbatore. The retired workers strongly condemned the officials' refusal to register their association.

Protesters Allege Deliberate Obstruction

The protesting members made serious allegations against the registrar office officials. They claimed the officials deliberately refused to register their welfare association. The protesters said officials gave various unreasonable reasons for the denial.

Association general secretary M Arunagirinathan explained their situation clearly. He stated their association successfully registered in twenty-seven districts across Tamil Nadu. However, Coimbatore district alone refused to complete the registration process.

Four-Month Wait Despite Following Rules

The retired employees followed all required procedures meticulously. They submitted their application for registration four months ago. Initially, officials demanded an No Objection Certificate from the transport department.

Arunagirinathan questioned this requirement sharply. He pointed out this demand seemed completely irrelevant to their registration process. "When other districts registered our association without problems, why can't Coimbatore do the same?" he asked during the protest.

Officials Promise Resolution After Protest

Registrar office officials eventually spoke with the protesting retired workers. They provided a firm guarantee about registering the association. Following this assurance, the protesters decided to disperse from the office premises.

The sit-in protest highlighted growing frustration among retired transport corporation employees. They seek proper recognition for their welfare association after decades of service. The Coimbatore incident shows administrative hurdles facing retired public sector workers.
