Congress Leader Chennithala Exposes Rs 7 Crore Ayyappa Sangamam Corruption Scandal
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has made explosive allegations, stating that the Global Ayyappa Sangamam event has now been revealed as a major corruption scandal. Speaking to reporters in Kottayam on Thursday, Chennithala asserted that the event, which was held at a staggering cost of Rs 7 crore, transformed into a platform for large-scale fraud and financial mismanagement.
High Court Orders Investigation into Sabarimala Transactions
Chennithala was specifically referring to the special commissioner's report on the conduct of the Ayyappa meet, which uncovered significant discrepancies in the accounts of the event. "Rs 7 crore was spent on the conference that concluded by noon. What else could this be but massive corruption?" he questioned. The former opposition leader emphasized that the high court had already recognized substantial corruption in all matters related to Sabarimala, and now it has ordered a thorough investigation into the transactions during the Mandala Makaravilakku period.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Lack of Accountability
Chennithala further criticized the Ayyappa Sangamam as a colossal failure, highlighting severe lapses in governance. "Who gave them the authority to squander the government's or the devaswom board's money in this manner?" he demanded. He noted that the bench had sharply criticized this issue on Wednesday, calling for a detailed investigation and legal action against those responsible, including the former devaswom board president.
The Congress leader pointed out that there was not even a proper account of how many people were fed at the Ayyappa Sangamam, underscoring the lack of transparency. "Large-scale corruption took place at the Ayyappa meet. The real culprits should be brought before the law," Chennithala insisted, urging authorities to expose this fraud and corruption fully.
