CESC Raids: 31 Illegal Power Cases, Rs 2.2L Fines

In a significant crackdown on power pilferage, the vigilance wing of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has registered a total of 31 cases of illegal electricity connections and levied fines amounting to Rs 2.2 lakh across Mysuru and surrounding districts. This large-scale enforcement drive was specifically aimed at curbing revenue losses caused by electricity theft.

Widespread Raids Across Multiple Districts

The special operation was conducted simultaneously by eight separate vigilance teams. These squads were drawn from five districts: Mysuru, Hassan, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and Kodagu. The teams carried out extensive inspections at a variety of installations, including residential and commercial properties, where unauthorized electricity usage was suspected.

Within Mysuru City, the raids focused on key localities known for such violations. Areas like Ekalavya Nagar, Bamboo Bazaar, Ittigegud, and nearby neighbourhoods were thoroughly checked by the officials.

Aim: Curb Revenue Loss and Ensure Fairness

Officials stated that the primary objective of this drive was to identify illegal connections and power theft, which lead to substantial financial losses for the electricity supply corporation. Such violations also place an unfair burden on honest, law-abiding consumers who pay their bills regularly. During the inspections, individuals found involved in unauthorized power consumption were booked under relevant legal provisions. Penalties were imposed on the spot as per established norms.

Leadership and On-Ground Execution

The mass operation was conducted under the guidance of top CESC officials, including Managing Director KM Munigopal Raju, Technical Director DJ Diwakar, and Chief General Manager (Technical) Sharanamma S Jangin.

The field-level execution was led by Vigilance Squad Superintendent of Police Savitha Hoogar. The team also included Executive Engineer (Electrical) BS Chandrashekhar, Vigilance Police Inspector M Jayaratna, Assistant Executive Engineer (Electrical) Syeda Kousar Begum, along with other officers and staff members who participated in the drive.

This coordinated effort highlights CESC's commitment to tackling electricity theft, protecting its revenue, and ensuring a fair system for all its consumers in the region.
