Bus Crash in Chhindwara District Leaves 10 Dead, 40 Injured

A devastating road accident in Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, claimed the lives of at least 10 people and left another 40 injured on Thursday evening. The tragedy occurred when a bus collided with another vehicle and overturned near the Umranala–Simariya area around 7 pm.

Details of the Collision and Casualties

The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus lost control and overturned on the road. Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles were among the deceased. The bus was carrying over 40 passengers returning from a function in Saunsar.

The deceased have been identified as Bhagwati (40), Daulat (40), Shakun (45), Ramdas (40), Ravi (35), Ramesh (55), Siya (40), Kamal (54), and Vansh (7), with one person remaining unidentified. According to police reports, the condition of one injured individual is serious, but doctors are optimistic about their survival.

Government Response and Compensation

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who had presided over an event in the area earlier in the day, expressed condolences for the loss of lives. He directed PWD Minister Rakesh Singh, who also serves as the district-in-charge for Chhindwara, to visit the affected families.

The state government announced immediate financial assistance: Rs 4 lakh each will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased, while Rs 1 lakh each will be given to the injured. Additionally, the government will bear the full cost of treatment for all injured victims. A control room has been established in the Health Department to monitor the treatment of the injured.

Injuries and Rescue Operations

Initial reports indicate that several surviving passengers sustained serious injuries, including severe head injuries. Tragically, a woman and a child lost their hands in the crash. SP Chhindwara Ajay Pandey stated, "A total of 10 people are confirmed dead, so far, while another 40 have sustained injuries. The bodies of victims, along with injured passengers, have been brought to Chhindwara district hospital."

Police and local administration officials rushed to the accident site promptly. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, and a probe is underway to determine the factors involved.
