The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the Karnataka Congress government's decision to acquire 500 acres of land for the Global Bengaluru Innovation Township (GBIT) near Bengaluru. BJP leader Vijayendra criticized the move, stating that it would unjustly displace farmers and disrupt their livelihoods.
BJP Demands Halt to Land Acquisition
Vijayendra demanded that the process initiated to acquire farmers' land be halted immediately. He accused the Congress government of acting against the interests of the farming community and urged them to reconsider the project's location or find an alternative that does not involve agricultural land.
Government's Stance
The Congress government has defended the acquisition, arguing that GBIT is crucial for Bengaluru's development and will create thousands of jobs. Officials claim that proper compensation will be provided to affected farmers. However, the BJP remains unconvinced and has vowed to continue its opposition until the government withdraws the acquisition order.
The issue has sparked a political debate, with both parties trading accusations ahead of upcoming local elections. Farmers in the region have also expressed concerns, fearing loss of their primary source of income.
