BJP Leader's Relative Killed in Coimbatore Highway Crash
A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old engineering student, who was a relative of state BJP president Nainar Nagendran, on the Salem-Cochin highway near Madukkarai in Coimbatore on Friday evening. The incident occurred after college hours, highlighting the dangers of speeding on busy highways.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The deceased has been identified as U Roshan, the son of Nainar Nagendran's cousin. Roshan was an engineering student at a private college near KG Chavadi and resided in a rental room in the same locality. According to police reports, he was traveling towards Palakkad on his motorcycle when the accident happened.
The Madukkarai police officer stated, "He was speeding and lost control over the motorcycle, which crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction. He was thrown off the two-wheeler in the impact of the collision and sustained severe head injuries. He died on the spot."
Immediate Response and Investigation
Other motorists on the stretch promptly alerted the Madukkarai police, who rushed to the scene. The police recovered Roshan's body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination. After the autopsy was completed on Saturday, the student's body was handed over to his grieving family.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, and an investigation is currently under way to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. This accident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly on high-traffic routes like the Salem-Cochin highway.
The loss of a young life has sent shockwaves through the local community and political circles, given Roshan's connection to a prominent BJP figure. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies in the future.
