The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken strict action against one of its former leaders in Jaisalmer. On Thursday, the party expelled Basit Khan, who served as the former vice-president of the minority morcha for Jaisalmer district. This decision followed his arrest in a bull slaughter case registered in Kelawa village, located in the Pokhran area.
Party Leaders Condemn the Incident
Dalpat Hingda, the BJP's Jaisalmer district president, made a strong statement regarding the expulsion. He emphasized that there is no place in the party for individuals involved in such activities. Hingda highlighted the BJP's "zero tolerance" policy against serious crimes like cattle slaughter. He also expressed support for strict legal action against those found guilty.
Mahant Pratap Puri, the BJP's MLA from Pokhran, echoed these sentiments. He used a proverb to describe the situation, saying, "As you sow, so shall you reap." Puri expressed shame over the incident, noting that trading in beef and consuming it in this manner is disgraceful. He apologized on behalf of the community and confirmed that party action against Khan was inevitable after his arrest by the police.
Details of the Bull Slaughter Case
The case dates back to January 8, when it was registered in Kelawa village. Locals reported to the police that on the night of January 7, some anti-social elements had tied a bull to a vehicle and dragged it. Later, they killed the animal and consumed its meat. This incident sparked outrage in the area.
In response, Mahant Pratap Puri, along with organizations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), called for a Pokhran bandh on January 10. The protest aimed to condemn the act and demand justice.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Police authorities conducted a thorough investigation into the matter before making any arrests. So far, they have arrested six accused in connection with the case. Basit Khan is among those taken into custody. The police action underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this crime.
The expulsion of Basit Khan from the BJP sends a clear message about the party's stance on such issues. It reflects a commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding legal and ethical standards within its ranks.
