A review meeting of the Bayana Municipal Council in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district turned tense as independent MLA Ritu Banawat and executive officer Anita Kumari engaged in a heated exchange, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Escalation During Meeting
The confrontation began when Banawat raised several civic and administrative issues. The discussion later escalated into a verbal spat between the MLA and the municipal officer, according to officials familiar with the matter.
As per a PTI report, the situation worsened after Kumari objected to Banawat's remarks about certain individuals who were allegedly intervening during the proceedings. Banawat had asked those individuals not to interrupt while she was speaking.
Officer's Objection
Officials said the executive officer questioned why the individuals had been asked to leave the meeting room and allegedly told the MLA that they were like family to her. In response, Banawat replied that indiscipline and disrespect would not be tolerated.
Intervention and Aftermath
People present at the meeting intervened and eventually brought the situation under control. After the incident, Banawat lodged a complaint against the executive officer with urban development and housing minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, the Bharatpur divisional commissioner, and the district collector. Officials said disciplinary action will be initiated against the officer.
