In a thoughtful response to the severe winter chill, the Bathinda police have launched a special initiative to support their personnel working through the long, cold nights. Officers on demanding 12-hour PCR duty are now being served steaming hot Manchow soup and warm milk to help them stay warm and alert.
Battling Punjab's Lowest Temperatures
The district of Bathinda has been recording the state's lowest minimum temperatures, making night patrols particularly harsh. On Wednesday, the mercury dipped to a shivering 4.6°C, the coldest in Punjab, followed by 5°C on Thursday. Recognizing the physical strain on the force, senior police officials decided a warm gesture was in order.
A Gesture of Support from Senior Officers
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) City-1, Amritpal Singh Bhaati, personally visited the Fire Brigade Chowk to distribute the refreshments. He emphasized that the initiative is a token of appreciation for the demanding job the personnel perform. "This is just to keep them warm so they can perform their duties with dedication. The practice will continue," DSP Bhaati stated.
The drive has been championed by Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal, who has recently been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). SSP Kondal explained the rationale behind the move: "It's a tough 12-hour PCR duty from 8 pm to 8 am, when cops must stay alert and respond immediately to any untoward incident. In this biting cold, we felt they needed some comfort, so we started serving hot soup and milk."
Sustaining Vigilance Through the Night
The initiative directly benefits nearly three dozen police personnel deployed on PCR duty across the district. The primary goal is to ensure they remain vigilant and effective throughout their night shifts despite the challenging weather conditions. The police leadership has confirmed that the service will continue as long as the intense cold weather persists in the region.
This act of care underscores the department's focus on the well-being of its frontline staff, who work tirelessly to maintain law and order. By providing this simple comfort, the Bathinda police aim to boost morale and ensure their team can serve the community with unwavering dedication, even on the coldest winter nights.
