Assam Recruits 1.56 Lakh Youth, Aims for 1.60 Lakh by Feb 10: CM Sarma
Assam's Massive Recruitment Drive: 1.56 Lakh Jobs Filled

In a significant announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed that the state government has successfully recruited a massive 1.56 lakh young individuals into various departments over the past five years. He further pledged that all remaining recruitments under the current drive will be finalized by February 10, 2026, pushing the final tally to an impressive 1.60 lakh appointments.

A Landmark Distribution Ceremony

The Chief Minister made this declaration on Saturday, January 11, 2026, while personally distributing appointment letters to 6,347 Grade-III candidates. These candidates were selected through the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE), a centralized process for government jobs. Sarma emphasized that this monumental recruitment drive stands out for its integrity and smooth execution.

He highlighted that the entire process has been transparent and litigation-free, with not a single case reaching the High Court challenging the appointments. This clean model of merit-based recruitment has garnered attention beyond Assam's borders, with other states across India now studying the "Assam model" for emulation. Sarma described this achievement as a firm reaffirmation of clean governance, integrity in public service, and an unwavering commitment to transparency.

Hallmark of Transparency and a Call to Action

Congratulating the newly appointed candidates, the Chief Minister stated that their selection through a fair and merit-based system is a hallmark of his administration's approach. It signifies that both the government, as the employer, and the employees have adhered to just and open methods.

However, Sarma's message extended beyond congratulations. He issued a strong appeal to the new appointees, urging them to uphold the highest ethical standards. He advised them to refrain from any wrongdoing in their official roles and, more importantly, to act as "anti-corruption crusaders" within the system. He called on them to ensure that corrupt practices find no place around them and to remain humble and responsive to the needs of the poor and weaker sections of society.

Fostering Team Spirit and Social Responsibility

The CM also appealed to the new government employees to cultivate a spirit of 'Team Assam' and contribute to injecting positive changes into the state's administration. Adding a personal and cultural touch, Sarma made a unique request regarding their salaries.

He suggested that with their first salary, the new appointees should present a gift to their parents as a token of gratitude. Furthermore, if possible, with their subsequent salaries, they should consider contributing to or doing something for the 'namghars' (traditional Vaishnavite prayer halls) and other faith-based institutions in their local communities. This, he implied, would ground their success in social and cultural responsibility.

This large-scale recruitment drive marks a pivotal moment in Assam's governance narrative, showcasing a successful, scalable model for public employment that prioritizes merit and transparency above all else.
