Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally handed out cheques worth Rs 10,000 each to 18,300 women in Dhubri district on Thursday. This significant event took place at the Indra Narayan Academy Field in Bilasipara.
Empowering Women Through Financial Support
The distribution formed part of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) scheme. Assam's government launched this flagship initiative to promote women's entrepreneurship across the state.
CM Sarma emphasized the scheme's core objective during his address. He stated that Assam is actively working to create a positive environment for women. The government aims to empower them to become self-reliant and financially independent.
Official Presence at the Event
Dhubri district's guardian minister, Ranjit Kumar Dass, attended the ceremony. The formal distribution of entrepreneurship capital occurred in his presence. The funds went directly to members of various self-help groups.
This move represents a strategic effort to boost local economies. It provides women with the necessary capital to start or expand their own small businesses.
Political Remarks and Future Promises
Chief Minister Sarma also made several political statements during his speech. He contrasted the current BJP-led government's approach with previous administrations.
"During the Congress regime, people received basic items like lungis, dhotis, yarn, and blankets," Sarma remarked. He then outlined a future promise, saying, "If the BJP returns to power again, we will provide ration completely free of cost."

The Chief Minister touched upon issues of regional peace and security. He specifically mentioned concerns about Bangladeshi elements disturbing peace in Assam.
Sarma assured the audience that Bangladeshi agents operating within the state would be neutralized. He stated these individuals are trying to create unrest, and the government will take firm action against them.
