In a significant move to bolster the morale and welfare of new police recruits, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced a substantial increase in the monthly stipend for trainee constables. The stipend for stipendiary cadet trainee police constables has been raised nearly threefold, from Rs 4,500 to Rs 12,500 per month.
A Major Boost at Mangalagiri Induction Ceremony
The announcement was made during the induction programme for 5,757 trainee constables (Civil and APSP) held at the APSP 6th Battalion Parade Ground in Mangalagiri. The decision was met with loud applause from the assembled recruits, marking a high point in the ceremony that formalised their entry into the Andhra Pradesh Police force.
Chief Minister Naidu stated that the decision was taken after consulting with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta on the dais. He emphasised that the hike underscores the state government's commitment to supporting trainees throughout their demanding nine-month training period.
Ending a Four-Year Recruitment Logjam
Addressing the gathering, Naidu highlighted that the coalition government had fulfilled its promise of providing jobs to the youth by resolving protracted legal hurdles. The constable recruitment process had been stalled for nearly four years before the current administration intervened.
All cases related to the recruitment notification were cleared, and appointments were issued transparently, the CM asserted. He added that during his tenure, more than 23,000 police positions have been filled, a move he said strengthens public confidence in the state's law and order machinery.
Shift to Tech-Driven, Citizen-Centric Policing
The induction coincides with a comprehensive overhaul of police training in Andhra Pradesh. The state is pivoting from conventional, force-based methods to a modern, technology-driven, data-led, and citizen-centric approach to policing.
Training for the new batch is scheduled to commence on December 22 and will span nine months. It will be conducted across 20 training centres, including District Training Centres, Police Training Colleges, and APSP battalions.
During his speech, CM Naidu also cautioned the new recruits to remain alert, disciplined, and professional. He pointed out that criminal activity operating under political cover remains a persistent challenge. In a responsive gesture, after a tribal recruit raised the issue of a missing road in his village, Naidu directed Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to address the matter.
Leadership Emphasises Dignity and Safety
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan stated that the completion of the recruitment reflects the government's dedication to employment generation and effective governance. He urged the recruits to uphold the dignity and integrity of the police uniform.
Kalyan also made it clear that the government will not tolerate any intimidation of police personnel and reiterated the administration's sharp focus on ensuring women's safety across the state.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed satisfaction that the long-cherished four-year aspiration of thousands of candidates had finally been realised. She stated that the introduction of technology-driven reforms in the police department would significantly enhance public safety, which she described as the bedrock of Andhra Pradesh's development.
