Statue of B R Ambedkar Vandalized in Satna District, Sparking Protests
In a disturbing incident, miscreants vandalized a statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar in the Unchehra area of Satna district, Madhya Pradesh. The act of defacement and damage triggered immediate protests and a road blockade by local villagers who demanded swift and strict action against the perpetrators.
Details of the Vandalism Incident
The statue was targeted near Tikura Tiraha in Bharahata village, located along the Nagod-Unchehra road under the jurisdiction of the Unchehra police station. According to officials, the vandalism occurred during the night hours. On Friday morning, villagers discovered the statue in a defaced and damaged condition, which quickly led to widespread outrage.
Local Protests and Road Blockade
A large number of villagers gathered at the site to stage a protest against the incident. The agitated locals blocked the Nagod-Unchehra road, disrupting traffic for approximately one-and-a-half hours. This blockade caused significant inconvenience and highlighted the community's anger over the disrespect shown to the statue of the revered social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution.
Police Intervention and Administrative Response
Police and administrative officials arrived at the scene to manage the situation. They managed to pacify the protesters by assuring them of appropriate action against those responsible for the vandalism. Following this intervention, the road blockade was lifted, restoring normal traffic flow.
In a swift response, the administration installed a new statue at the same site by evening. Additionally, locals raised concerns about prior threats to damage the statue, indicating a possible premeditated act.
Preventive Measures Announced
To prevent such incidents in the future, authorities have announced plans to enhance security around the statue. Sub-divisional magistrate of Nagaud, Sumesh Dwivedi, stated, "We are also planning to get a boundary wall around the statue and also get CCTV installed there." These measures aim to safeguard the statue and ensure it remains protected from any further acts of vandalism.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for greater vigilance and respect for public monuments, especially those honoring key figures in Indian history like Dr. B R Ambedkar.
