Record-Breaking Pilgrim Batch Departs for Amarnath
The largest batch of pilgrims for this year's Amarnath Yatra departed from Jammu on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The convoy consisted of 9,837 devotees, marking the biggest single-day movement of pilgrims so far this season.
Composition of the Pilgrim Group
According to officials, the batch included 7,004 men, 2,810 women, 21 children, and two transgender persons. The pilgrims left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu in a convoy of vehicles, escorted by security forces.
Security and Logistics Arrangements
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made extensive security and logistical arrangements for the smooth conduct of the yatra. The pilgrims will travel to the base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal before proceeding to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath.
Significance of the Yatra
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the Himalayas. The yatra, which began on July 1, will conclude on August 15, 2026, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
