Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai launched a sharp critique against the state government on Wednesday, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order and pressing for immediate support to the families of government employees who lost their lives while on official duty.
Demand for Jobs and Compensation
Addressing party workers and the media in Ambedkarnagar, Rai highlighted a critical issue concerning state employees. He stated that nearly two dozen government personnel across Uttar Pradesh have died while performing duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work. The Congress leader emphasized that the state administration must take responsibility for these tragedies.
Rai specifically pointed to the untimely death of assistant BLO and teacher Sushila Verma. He asserted that her passing raises serious questions about administrative accountability and the working conditions imposed on employees. "The government must provide a job and adequate compensation to the dependents of all deceased employees," Rai demanded during his address.
Allegations of 'Jungle Raj' in Ambedkarnagar
Expanding his criticism, the state Congress chief alleged that a state of 'jungle raj' prevails in Uttar Pradesh. He cited several disturbing incidents from Ambedkarnagar district to substantiate his claims. One case involved the demolition of a house belonging to Virendra Pratap Singh in Ariya village. Rai claimed the demolition was carried out by local strongmen using a bulldozer, and it allegedly occurred in the presence of police personnel.
Rai also brought attention to the troubling case of Himanshu Vishwakarma, a youth who has been missing for the past two months. He lamented that the family was forced to stage prolonged protests just to seek action from the authorities, calling the situation unfortunate and indicative of administrative failure.
On-Ground Visits and Assurances of Support
During his visit to the district, Ajay Rai undertook a series of meetings with affected families. He first met with the relatives of the missing Himanshu Vishwakarma, who were protesting near the Ambedkar statue in Akbarpur. Following this, he visited the site of the alleged illegal house demolition in Ariya village to assess the situation firsthand.
Rai's final stop was in Rasoolpur, Tanda, where he offered condolences to the family of the late teacher Sushila Verma. He met her husband, Gangaram Verma, and son, Kamta Prasad Verma, personally assuring them of the Congress party's full support in their fight for justice and compensation.
The Congress leader's statements and visits underscore a growing political confrontation over governance and public safety in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for further debate on the state's law and order situation.
