AIMIM Cancels Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Morcha After Police Assurances
AIMIM calls off protest after talks with city police

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to cancel its planned protest march, or morcha, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The decision came on Saturday after the party's state leadership received firm assurances from the city's police administration regarding the maintenance of law and order.

Positive Dialogue Leads to Withdrawal

AIMIM's state president and former MP, Imtiaz Jaleel, announced the cancellation following a detailed meeting with City Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar on Saturday afternoon. The discussion, which lasted for nearly one and a half hours, was described as positive and constructive by Jaleel.

"The police commissioner has been taking effective and concrete action against drug traffickers and illegal activities. We trust the police action taken to maintain law and order in the city," Jaleel stated while addressing reporters after the meeting. This expression of faith in the police force was pivotal in the party's decision to call off the agitation.

Context of Recent Attacks and Legal Concerns

The proposed morcha was initially announced in response to a series of concerning incidents. The backdrop included recent attacks on AIMIM party workers and a separate attack on Imtiaz Jaleel's own vehicle. Jaleel had earlier voiced dissatisfaction over the delay in registering a formal offence in the case related to the attack on his vehicle, which prompted the protest call.

During the discussions, Jaleel acknowledged that the police had taken all the accused into custody in the cases related to assaults on party workers. However, he expressed clear displeasure regarding one specific development. One of the main accused in these cases was granted interim bail by a court, a move Jaleel criticized.

He alleged that the bail was granted without the court hearing the arguments from the police side. Jaleel indicated that the party would pursue further legal steps on this matter at an appropriate time in the future.

Assurances Pave Way for Peace

Ultimately, it was the direct dialogue and commitments from the top police official that led to a de-escalation. Citing the positive nature of the discussion and the assurances provided by Commissioner Pravin Pawar, the AIMIM leadership concluded that holding the protest march was no longer necessary.

This move underscores the importance of communication between political entities and law enforcement agencies in resolving tensions and ensuring public order. The cancellation of the morcha prevents potential disruption in the city and allows the police to continue their actions against unlawful activities, as acknowledged by the party itself.
