Adhikari Accuses Mamata of Disrespecting Armed Forces Amid Pakistan Tensions

In a sharp political confrontation, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she consistently falls short of praising the Indian armed forces. This criticism emerged even as Banerjee questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "silence" regarding Pakistan's threats to strike Kolkata, highlighting a deepening rift in the state's political landscape.

Allegations Over Operation Sindoor and Military Actions

Adhikari pointed to specific incidents to bolster his claims. He stated that the Chief Minister demanded proof of retaliatory airstrikes by the Indian Air Force following the Awantipura attack and failed to acknowledge the role of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor. "We have seen her role after the Pahalgam incident. She did not even praise the role of the Indian armed forces during Operation Sindoor. Instead, she chose to raise questions over the name of the operation," Adhikari asserted.

He further elaborated on the cultural implications, noting, "Married Hindu women use sindoor to pray for the long life of their spouses. By raising the question over terming the operation as Sindoor, she insulted the traditional Bengali culture. She has, on multiple occasions, expressed her thoughts, which are against the nation."

Broader Accusations of Insulting Armed Forces

Expanding his critique, Adhikari referenced other instances where he claimed Banerjee disrespected the military. While the BJP has frequently accused the Trinamool Congress of allowing infiltration across borders, Adhikari highlighted specific remarks. "TMC netas called the BSF rapists" and questioned the presence of armed forces on the Second Hooghly Bridge, he said.

Adhikari also recalled an incident on Red Road, stating, "When members of the armed forces came to uninstall the pandal on Red Road, she insulted them. In a demeaning note, she said that the armed forces were fleeing after she came. It is the same armed force that has been protecting India's borders."

This political clash underscores ongoing tensions in West Bengal, with national security and military respect becoming focal points in the discourse. The allegations come at a time when regional and national politics are increasingly intertwined, especially concerning border security and diplomatic relations with neighboring countries.
