Tamil Nadu's Minister for Information, M P Saminathan, on Tuesday officially opened a series of newly completed development projects with a total value of ₹2.78 crore for public use in the scenic Nilgiris district. The inauguration ceremony marked the fulfillment of several long-standing public demands in the region.
New Public Libraries and Road Infrastructure Unveiled
The key projects inaugurated include two new public libraries and a significantly upgraded road. Each library was constructed at a cost of ₹22 lakh. One library is located in the Thummanatty panchayat, while the other serves the Kagguchi panchayat, aiming to boost educational and community resources in these areas.
Furthermore, a 3-kilometer stretch of road connecting Kattabettu and Iduhatty has been fully renovated. This road falls under the Ebbanadu panchayat, which is part of the Udhagamandalam panchayat union. The upgrade was carried out with a substantial investment of ₹2.34 crore under the central government's Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY) scheme, promising improved connectivity for local residents.
Minister Highlights Widespread Development Efforts
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration event, Minister Saminathan emphasized the state government's commitment to holistic development across the Nilgiris. He stated that development works are actively progressing in all three assembly constituencies of the district.
"Today, we dedicated completed development projects totalling ₹2.78 crore for public use," Saminathan said. "These were some long-standing demands of the public that have been fulfilled now." His remarks underscored the government's focus on addressing local infrastructure needs.
Dignitaries and Officials Grace the Occasion
The inauguration event was attended by several notable figures, ensuring the projects received due recognition. Tamil Nadu's Chief Whip, K Ramachandran, was present to witness the handover. The district administration was represented by Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru. Various other government officials also participated in the ceremony, highlighting the collaborative effort behind these public welfare initiatives.
The completion and inauguration of these projects are expected to directly benefit the residents of the involved panchayats, enhancing their access to knowledge through the libraries and ensuring smoother, safer travel via the renovated road.
