A tragic incident occurred in Ludhiana's Dehlon area, where a 32-year-old construction worker lost his life after a parked container truck reversed over him. The victim, Karan Shankar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was taking a break from laying cables when the accident happened.
Details of the Incident
According to the victim's brother and co-worker, Deepu, Shankar was sitting directly behind the enclosed truck on the road connecting Lehra and Ghungrana villages. The driver allegedly reversed the heavy vehicle without checking behind him, causing the truck's tyre to crush Shankar and kill him instantly.
Driver Flees the Scene
After the accident, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest the suspect. Emergency services recovered Shankar's body from the scene.
Legal Action Taken
The Dehlon police have registered a criminal case against the unidentified driver under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is currently in progress.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by construction workers and the need for stricter safety measures around heavy vehicles. The police are urging anyone with information about the driver to come forward.
