Jaisalmer: A tragic incident occurred in Barmer district on Friday, where a 23-year-old married woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter lost their lives after allegedly jumping into a water tank. The deceased woman, identified as Dhudi, was a resident of Booth Rathoran village.

Incident Details

According to police reports, Dhudi reportedly threw her daughter into a water tank located outside their home before jumping in herself. Chauhtan DSP Jetharam stated that the woman had been sleeping at home with her child and left the house with the toddler in the early hours of Friday. Preliminary investigations suggest that she first threw the child into the tank and then jumped in.

Rescue Attempt and Aftermath

Nearby residents rushed to the spot after hearing cries and attempted a rescue. Upon being informed, police arrived at the scene and pulled both individuals out of the tank. They were immediately taken to Chauhtan Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Their bodies were subsequently shifted to the mortuary at Chauhtan Hospital.

After the arrival of the woman’s maternal family, a postmortem examination was conducted by a medical board, and the bodies were handed over to relatives for final rites.

Investigation Underway

Chauhtan station officer Lalit Kishore confirmed that a case of unnatural death has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway. Police noted that the family has not raised any suspicion against anyone, and no evidence of domestic discord has emerged so far. Officials added that the woman was married three years ago. The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
