Fatal Accident on Mumbai-Nashik Highway

A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday morning on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway near Diva in Bhiwandi, resulting in the death of a 28-year-old woman and injuries to a motorcyclist. The deceased was identified as Reema Mukesh Bhatia (28), a resident of Kalyan. The injured rider, Sameer Bhise, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to police reports, the incident took place on the Thane-bound carriageway when a motorcycle was allegedly struck by a truck. The impact caused Bhatia, who was riding pillion, to fall onto the road and be run over by the truck's wheels, leading to her instantaneous death. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene with the vehicle after the accident.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde's Intervention

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who was passing through the area while returning to Thane after meeting corporators from Nashik at a hotel in Bhiwandi, noticed the accident and stopped his convoy. He inquired about the situation and directed his staff to provide immediate assistance to the victims. He also instructed that an ambulance be arranged without delay and ensured that the injured motorcyclist received prompt medical attention. The injured rider was later admitted to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhiwandi for treatment.

Police Investigation Underway

Personnel from Narpoli police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. Traffic movement on the stretch was briefly affected as emergency responders carried out rescue and clearance operations. A police official stated that an offence has been registered against an unidentified truck driver, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him. Further investigation into the incident is in progress.
