The enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls officially began across Sikkim on May 30, as announced by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Raj Kumar Yadav. The process will continue until June 28, ensuring comprehensive updates to the voter list.
Key Details of the SIR Exercise
The SIR exercise aims to enhance the accuracy and completeness of the electoral rolls in the state. During this period, election officials will conduct door-to-door visits to collect and verify voter information. The enumeration phase is the first step, followed by data processing and publication of the draft roll.
CEO Raj Kumar Yadav emphasized the importance of public participation in this exercise. He urged all eligible voters to cooperate with the enumerators and provide accurate details. The revision is part of the Election Commission of India’s ongoing efforts to ensure error-free electoral rolls.
Timeline and Procedures
The enumeration phase runs from May 30 to June 28, 2026. After this, claims and objections will be invited, and the final electoral roll will be published after due process. Voters can also check their names online and submit corrections through the designated portal.
The Sikkim CEO’s office has deployed trained staff across all districts to carry out the revision smoothly. Special attention is being given to areas with low voter registration or high migration.
This initiative underscores the commitment to conducting free and fair elections in the state. The updated rolls will serve as the foundation for future electoral events.
