NGT Seeks Report on Illegal Borewells in Mayur Vihar

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) to submit a comprehensive report regarding allegations of illegal borewell operations in a residential society located in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar Phase-I. Additionally, the tribunal has instructed the district administration and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to provide an action taken report on the matter.

Complaint Filed by Local Resident

A complaint was lodged by a local resident, alleging that several borewells are being operated illegally within the society premises. The bench, presided over by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, noted that the complaint was previously submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the area, the CGWA, and the DJB in April. However, no effective action has been taken thus far, prompting the tribunal to intervene.

Deadline for Submission of Reports

The NGT bench has directed the CGWA, SDM, and DJB to file their respective reports before the next hearing, which is scheduled for August 7. The tribunal emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue to prevent further exploitation of groundwater resources.
