Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has unveiled a special operational plan for New Year's Eve to ensure smooth and safe travel for thousands of revellers. The metro operator will significantly enhance its services on the busy Versova-Ghatkopar corridor to accommodate the festive rush.
Extended Hours and Additional Trips for Seamless Commute
In a move aimed at facilitating convenient travel, MMOPL will operate 28 additional trips on the night of December 31st into the early hours of January 1st. This boost will take the total number of services for the period to an impressive 504 trips. The extension is specifically designed to help commuters return home safely after midnight celebrations.
Last Train Timings for Key Stations
To allow maximum flexibility, the metro will run much later than its usual schedule. The last train from Versova (VER) station will depart at 2:14 AM on January 1, 2026. For commuters at the other end of the line, the final service from Ghatkopar (GHA) will leave at 2:40 AM on New Year's Day. These extended timings are expected to provide a reliable and efficient alternative to road transport, which often faces severe congestion on New Year's Eve.
Focus on Safety and Convenience
The announcement underscores MMOPL's commitment to passenger safety and convenience during high-density events. By increasing frequency and extending operational hours, the metro aims to reduce overcrowding at stations and inside trains. This initiative is part of a larger trend where public transport systems in major Indian cities are stepping up to manage festive crowds effectively, encouraging people to choose public transit over private vehicles.
The enhanced service is a welcome relief for Mumbaikars planning to ring in the New Year at parties, events, or religious gatherings across the city. It offers a predictable and safe travel option during a night when cab fares typically surge and roads are packed. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys keeping these special timings in mind for a hassle-free experience.
