In a significant push for road safety, the Muskaan Foundation, with robust support from the Rajasthan Police, organized a large-scale walkathon in Jaipur on Sunday. The event was specifically designed to amplify awareness and promote the critical cause of pedestrian safety across the city.
Addressing a Critical Need
Organizers highlighted a pressing concern, noting that Jaipur has experienced numerous pedestrian accidents over the past four years. They pointed to the tragic 2012 incident involving IAS officer VS Singh, who lost his life after being struck by a car during a morning walk, as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks.
Massive Participation from Diverse Groups
The five-kilometer walk, stretching from Mahal Road to Akshaya Patra Chauraha, saw an impressive turnout of over 1,000 enthusiastic participants. The crowd was a vibrant mix of students, trainees from the prestigious Rajasthan Police Academy, and dedicated personnel from the Kalika Squad, all united under the common banner of safer streets.
Official Endorsement and Calls for Sustained Action
Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar Sharma formally flagged off the event, emphasizing the foundational role of pedestrian safety within the broader framework of road safety. "Pedestrian safety is a key pillar of road safety," stated DGP Sharma, calling for continuous and sustained public awareness efforts to foster lasting change. Senior police officials, including Yogesh Dhadich and Kunwar Rashtradeep, were also in attendance, underscoring the department's commitment.

Throughout the walkathon, participants passionately raised the slogan #StreetsForAll, a powerful message advocating for the urgent development of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in Jaipur.
